Our Loop Adventure

December 01, 2024

We woke up well rested – nothing like a great night’s sleep!! Our mechanic is planned for a noonish visit after his morning duck hunt. We are in Alabama where restaurants are closed on Sun and Mon except for fast food and Mexican restaurants. The dock house TV is blaring evangelical preaching while we do our laundry. The shower facilities are clean with multiple spacious private stalls. The Mechanic calls much earlier than expected and assesses rather quickly it’s the generator water pump. On the dollar sign scale it’s estimated to be $$ and a couple days. He removes the pump and will sandblast it at home while waiting for a rebuild kit to arrive. Tentatively it looks like we won’t be continuing our journey until Wed morning.

We borrow the marina loaner car and explore Demopolis which has population of about 10k. We stop at a Walmart to fulfill Alan’s bucket list to visit one in every city. 😆 Stopped at Mr G’s , a higher end fast food place, for lunch. We arranged an independent ride service (no Uber here) to provide round trip to Las Fuentes for a dinner date. Alan even showered and shaved 😍. We recognized several patrons from the marina. Not surprising since we were told this was the best choice for Sunday dinner 😉

Unlike most marina docks we have visited, there is no cipher lock controlling access to the docks. Just a sign indicating “Boat Owners and Authorized Visitors Only”. Sure, that will stop those with ill-intent. For a moment before falling asleep last night I wondered if I should set up the Anchor Pro app in case somebody sneaks onto the dock, unties a bunch of lines and causes a big game of bumper boats. I decide to have faith the evangelical preachings were effective and doze off for the night.
